Setting Default Apps & File Extensions On A Mac

This quick step guide will show you how to set default apps and file extensions on a Mac.

  1. Find a file you would like to change the default app for and right-click on it. Select “Get Info”
  2. In the pop-up box find the section that says “Open with”

3. There will be a drop-down box that allows you to select the application. Click the drop-down box and find the application you would like to open this file with.

4. If you only wanted to change the default application for this one file then you can just close the pop up box.     If you would like to change the application for all files with this extension then click on the “Change All…” button just below.

5. You’ll get an alert to confirm if you would like to change all file extensions to this application. Click “Continue”
