Mapping A Network Drive On A Mac

by

This quick step guide will show you how to connect to a network drive on a Mac.

  1. Launch Finder
  2. At the top of the screen select “Go” and click on “Connect to Server”

3. Enter the server address which will be something like smb://192.168.0.1/mysharedfiles

4. Press the plus button to add it to favourite servers and click Connect

5. Enter the username and password required to access these files. You can click the option to remember this password in my keychain if needed.

6. Click Connect again

7. If you open a Finder window, you’ll now see the mounted network drive under “locations”

8. If you would like quick access to a specific folder in the mounted drive then go into the mounted drive, navigate to the folder, right-click and select “Make Alias”.

A shortcut to this folder will be visible on your desktop. You can use this shortcut to go straight to this location whenever you’ve got the network drive mounted.
