How To Troubleshoot Hardware Issues

by

This Quick step guide will provide you some basic hardware troubleshooting steps for power, monitor and peripheral issues.

  •   Check the Power Supply: Ensure the computer is plugged in and receiving power. Check if the power button is working and check the wall socket is not damaged and switched on.

  • · Check the Monitor: If the computer seems to be working but there’s no image on the monitor, check if it’s turned on and the cables are connected properly and sitting firm in the sockets.

  • · Check the Keyboard and Mouse: If these aren’t working, try unplugging and re-plugging them or using different USB ports or even a different Keyboard and Mouse altogether.

  • · Listen for Beeps: When a computer boots up, it performs a Power-On Self Test (POST). If there are issues, it will produce a series of beeps. These beep codes can help identify the problem.
  •   Check for Overheating: Computers can behave erratically if they overheat. Make sure all fans are working and the computer is in a cool location. If it is hot, please leave it to cool and check if it has adequate ventilation.
