This quick step guide will show you how to find your Wi-Fi password if you are unable to remember or is not accessible from the router itself. This can be achieved using a Windows or Mac computer.

NB. For these methods to work you will need to already be connected to the Wi-Fi network you need.

Method 1 – Using control panel on Windows

  • Open the Control Panel through the Start Menu and select the Network and Sharing Centre

  • Select your Wi-Fi network

  • Once this opens select Wireless Properties and then select the Security tab which will provide you more details about your Wi-Fi network
  • Select the Show Characters box and this will show the Wi-Fi password for this network

Method 2 (Advanced Method) – Using Command Prompt (cmd) on Windows

  • Select the Start Menu and type “cmd”
  • This will then open a command prompt window

  • Then enter the following command – Netsh wlan show profile name= “your Wi-Fi name” key=clear

  • This will then provide you all the information about your Wi-Fi network including the Wi-Fi password next to the Key Content option

Method 3 – using Keychain Access on Mac

  • Open Keychain Access from Applications > Utilities from the Go tab

  • Select System from the left hand panel and then select the Passwords tab at the top

  • Double click on your network name to display the additional Wi-Fi information
  • Tick the “Show Password” box and enter your admin password

  • The Wi-Fi password will then be displayed

Method 4 (Advanced Method) – using Terminal on Mac
